Leadership

James Kinsey

Chief Executive Officer

James joined Humatics in 2016 as one of its founding officers.  He started with the Milo product leading software and systems before leading the creation of the Mobility business line in 2019.  James led the successful bid and delivery of Humatics’ Digital Train Positioning projects with the MTA.  Prior to joining Humatics, James was on the scientific staff of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution developing GPS-denied navigation methods for underwater vehicles and deploying these systems all over the world.  He holds a PhD degree in mechanical engineering from The Johns Hopkins University and is author on over 100 publications and patents.

Gary Warzynski

Chief Financial Officer

Gary has held held multiple senior operating and finance roles at Private Equity and Venture backed startups including his most recent tenure at Exari Systems (acquired by Coupa, NASDAQ: COUP). Prior to serving in leadership roles at startups, Gary served as a member of the management team at RiverRidge Consulting Group, specializing in the triage of troubled venture backed businesses, M&A advisory services, turnarounds, and ownership transitions. Gary led strategic development teams while at Accenture Strategic Services in the Supply Chain Strategy Practice for communications and technology clients. While at JPMorgan, Gary executed finance transactions for emerging technology companies within the corporate finance investment banking group. Gary earned his bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from Case Western Reserve University and his MBA from Carnegie Mellon’s Tepper School of Business.

Aaron Whittemore

General Manager, Mobility

Aaron brings well over a decade of engineering experience in the transit sector and is responsible for the strategic product direction for the mobility technology in the public transit sector.  He previously served as the Director of Special Projects at the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) where he worked under the General Manager on a variety of business transformation projects and led capital modernization projects for bus and transit systems. He is a graduate of Harvard Business School and was selected as a Leadership Fellow in 2019 and was recognized as a Emerging Leader in Transportation from the NYU Rudin Center for Transportation. Prior to the MBTA, Aaron worked for over 10 years in complex system design and engineering serving as a Systems Engineering Leader with Raytheon on a variety of defense programs.

Ronald Ranaldi

Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing

Ronald comes to Humatics with over 30 years of experience bringing business-critical technology to the market. He has spent time increasing market share and building global organizations in the enterprise software space and has experience in the data center, power and finance sectors. Ron served as the VP of Sales, Americas, for NGDATA where he helped spearhead the growth of AI marketing automation. He was the President of AppFirst, VP of Sales and Marketing for Validus DC system (sold to ABB), VP Eastern Sales for RogueWave Software (sold to Battery Ventures), an early member of WebLogic (sold to BEA systems) and Open Environment Corporation (IPO and sold to Borland Systems).

Head of Corporate Operations

Kelly joined Humatics in 2019 and leads the Human Resources team. She has worn many hats in her time as a people professional and has spent the past 8 years at various companies building solid foundations around employee engagement, compensation and benefits, organizational development, company culture and employee experience. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Hampshire.

Ben Rodda

Ben specializes in new product introduction and is a professionally trained Electronics Engineer. During his 25 year career he has brought over 50 products to market including from IoT, lighting, cellular communication, and data acquisition. Douglas Breault

Director of Mobility Engineering

Doug is a multi-disciplined engineer with 15 years of experience creating highly valuable solutions and products that leverage his broad experience in mechanical engineering, software engineering, robotics, and data science. Prior to joining Humatics, Doug led teams deploying cutting-edge sensors in novel manners and developing industry leading test capabilities for iRobot and the Roomba product line. Before that, he researched thermoelectric devices and soft-bodied robot actuation using shape-memory alloys at Tufts University, was a design engineer for Lockheed Martin and while at NASA he focused on space shuttle missions and hardware for the International Space Station. He received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Norwich University.

David co-founded Humatics™ in 2015 with a mission to revolutionize how people and machines locate, navigate and collaborate. He is a professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics at MIT, as well as the Dibner Professor of the History of Engineering and Manufacturing, and Chair of the MIT Task Force on the Work of the Future. An expert on the myriad relationships between people and autonomous robots, he has participated in more than 25 oceanographic expeditions and is an inventor on 8 patents in autonomous helicopters, AI-assisted piloting, and RF navigation. He is the author of five books, including Our Robots, Ourselves: Robotics and the Myths of Autonomy (2015) and Digital Apollo: Human and Machine in Spaceflight (2008). David has undergraduate degrees from Yale and a Ph.D. from MIT.

Amy Villeneuve

Director

Amy Villeneuve is a tech executive, board director and advisor to technology startups. As President and COO of Kiva Systems and Vice President of Amazon, Villeneuve spearheaded the growth of this robotics startup into a profitable venture, ultimately leading to Kiva’s acquisition by Amazon for $775M. Villeneuve then led Kiva’s successful integration into Amazon, driving the automation of fulfillment centers worldwide, and positioned its rebranding as Amazon Robotics.

Prior to joining Kiva, Villeneuve was EVP at Cross Country Automotive Services (now Agero), a strategy consultant at The Parthenon Group (now Parthenon-EY), and an operations leader running component division factories in the auto industry (GM Delco, Stoneridge). Villeneuve is also a board member of 6 River Systems, Ori Systems, and 4moms; an advisor to REsurety and Catalant; and a startup mentor through MIT’s Venture Mentoring. She holds an MBA from the Harvard Business School, an MS from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and a BS from Clarkson University.

Trevor Zimmerman

Trevor Zimmerman is Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Blackhorn Ventures. Previously, he co-founded Farmore Capital Group (FCG), a private investment firm. While there, he led the firm’s day-to-day activities and spent much of his time working directly with entrepreneurs to build successful companies.

In addition to angel investing and venture capital, Trevor’s professional experience ranges from developing materials for biomedical implants to designing high-performance batteries for the U.S. Navy to developing systems to hinder the migration of radionuclides in groundwater at the Y-12 National Security Complex. Before co-founding FCG, Trevor was the principal engineer in the Technology Development Division of Kurion Inc, a venture-backed startup company. Here he was primarily focused on radioactive wastewater treatment efforts at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. Trevor holds patents for making carbon nanopipes and ductwork with nanometric walls and separating radionuclides with submersible filters.

Trevor frequently serves as an instructor, mentor, and judge for a variety of institutions including the Department of Energy, Stanford University, and MIT. He completed a postgraduate research appointment at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and holds an M.S. in Environmental Engineering from Clemson University and a B.A. in Chemistry from Alfred University.

He spends most of his free time playing outside on rocks, trails, and water with his wife and two kids.

Dan is the managing partner of Tenfore Holdings. He has 6+ years experience working with Eddie Lampert overseeing, developing, and operating core and startup businesses, particularly within Sears Holdings, concentrating on eCommerce, mobile, social, machine learning, and local spaces. He has focused on multichannel experiences that leverage and link online, store, supply chain, pricing, inventory, merchandising, and analytics systems. Dan holds an AB from Harvard and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Tenfore Holdings is an investment management firm that provides operational value-added to growth-stage companies where technology plays a transformative role. The firm focuses on commerce and Big Data equity/debt investments where they can apply their operating experience and strategic relationships to enhance value. They have extensive experience operating at scale, and understand how to build smaller enterprises to scale. By providing capital, strategic guidance at the board level, and operational support to talented managers, Tenfore helps companies realize their full revenue, profit and market-value potential for the long-term.

Tom’s areas of research include CMOS radio frequency integrated circuit design and all types of analog circuitry, including high-speed radio frequency communications systems. He holds approximately 70 US patents and is the author of The Design of CMOS Radio-Frequency Integrated Circuits and Planar Microwave Engineering, both from Cambridge University Press. He is a co-founder of Matrix Semiconductor (acquired by Sandisk), ZeroG Wireless (acquired by Microchip), and Ayla Networks. He holds SB, SM and ScD degrees in electrical engineering from MIT.

Best known for his work in marine geology and underwater archaeology, Bob is the discoverer of the wrecks of the RMS Titanic, the battleship Bismarck, and the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown. Bob worked for more than 30 years at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, where he now serves as scientist emeritus. He is founder and president of the Ocean Exploration Trust, which owns and operates the E/V Nautilus. Bob has received the Explorers Medal from the Explorers Club, the Hubbard Medal from the National Geographic Society, the Lindbergh Award, and the National Endowment for the Humanities Medal. His decades of experience operating robots in extreme environments advances Humatics’ commitment to developing precision robotic systems for daily use.

Dave Scott

Dave is an MIT-educated engineer, retired U.S. Air Force officer, former test pilot, and former NASA astronaut. Dave flew on the Gemini 8 and Apollo 9 missions, and as commander of Apollo 15, he became the seventh person to walk on the Moon. Before becoming an astronaut, Dave graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point and joined the United States Air Force. He graduated from the Air Force Experimental Test Pilot School and Aerospace Research Pilot School. Dave retired from the Air Force in 1975 with the rank of colonel and more than 5,600 hours of flying time. Through his role in the development and operation of the Apollo guidance system, Dave was an early proponent of automated systems that fully embrace human skill and judgment.
